The three figures, drawn in a sculptural manner with the split heads characteristic of 1939, are set against a stark brick wall background. Compare p.1 of the First Shelter Sketchbook (HMF 1559), in which the figures are also closely related to many drawings of ideas for sculpture of 1939 but are inscribed people wrapped in blankets (for 'shelter' drawing).
