More Information

In 1942 the poet Tambimuttu asked Moore to design some covers for Poetry London, a magazine published by Editions Poetry London that in 1945 would produce a compilation of the Shelter Sketchbooks. Moore drew HMF 2056-2057a, 2058-2063, as well as redrawing two pages in the Square Forms and Lyre Birds Sketchbook HMF 1284, 1286 and reworking several others; see also the related HMF 1285. Three of the drawings were used: HMF 2059 for Issue No.11, 2062 for Issue No.8 and 2063 for Issues Nos.7 and 12-16. In 1970 Poetry London was reprinted in five volumes, covering all issues from February 1939 until winter 1951; all Moore's published designs were reproduced.
