More Information

The drawing in the middle of the second row on the recto is connected with Carving LH 148, made in the summer of 1934 and subsequently destroyed. To the immediate right of this is a sketch which can be related to the elmwood Carving LH 174 which Moore did in 1936. It is interesting that already in the 1930s he had acquired the habit of looking back at his earlier drawings for inspiration. On the verso, the drawing upper left seems to be related to Reclining Figure 1934 (LH 141) in African wonderstone.
