More Information

Second Shelter Sketchbook p.12. Moore may have had in his subconscious Dürer's woodcuts Apocalypse or The Knight, Death and the Devil when drawing these skeletal figures; the unusual shade of green adds to their disturbing quality. In the enlarged version HMF 1792 Moore softened the figures, making them less threatening.
