As with HMF 1330, Moore incorporated five of the small sketches on the recto of this drawing into the border around HMF 996 which, despite Moore's subsequent dating, leads it to be placed in 1933. Also adding weight to this date is the inscription reinforced concrete/cement/concrete, materials Moore was using in sculptures at the time - Composition LH 133 and Reclining Figure LH 134, both of 1933, and Composition LH 140 of 1934. The drawing on the verso dates to some eighteen years after those on the recto. It is connected with LH 298 of 1951 and may have been done from the sculpture.
