Moore looked back to sketches done in 1937 - an extraordinarily productive year as regards abstract inventions - for the forms in this drawing. The figure in the centre appears centre left in HMF 1315 and becomes the main form on the left in HMF 1367. The two bone forms placed one on top of the other, rather like upper and lower jaws, appear in HMF 1402a.
