Moore met Peggy Guggenheim when he showed some of his work, including Stringed Figure 1937 (LH 183), in an exhibition of contemporary sculpture at the Guggenheim Jeune gallery, London, in April 1938. She may have acquired this drawing then. HMF 1274 and 1275 were drawn on the versos of invitations to the exhibiton.
