The angular head and the pose of the central figure call to mind Picasso's Les Demoiselles d'Avignon. Moore's figure is almost a mirror image of the figure at the extreme left of Picasso's 1906 painting. Alice Gostick had often lent Moore magazines and other publications on art in Paris whilst he was still attending Castleford Secondary School.
