More Information
The verso of HMF 1058 on the previous page bears an inscription a single upright piece for big ancaster. On the verso of this page upper right is a sketch of a 'single upright piece' which is clearly linked with Mother and Child LH 171 carved in 1936, not in Ancaster but in green Hornton stone. Other drawings on the recto also have more affinity with small sculptures Moore carved in 1935 and 1936 (for example, LH 158, 161, 172, 174) than with any 1933 carvings. The two sketches side by side at the centre of the recto are the basis for two drawings of 1934, HMF 1093 and 1094.
