Moore frequently observed that a reclining figure had three points of contact - the elbows, the buttocks and the feet - with whatever supported it. Here, unusually for him, the three points of contact are on different levels. There is also a marked twisting of the upper part of the body although the left forearm remains parallel to the picture plane in line with the left thigh.
