More Information
In Henry Moore: Complete Drawings 1930-39 Volume 2, this drawing was catalogued as two separate sheets – HMF 871 and HMF 872. In 2005, when the drawing was included in the exhibition Henry Moore: Epoche und Echo, it was noted that the drawing was a double sided sheet. The signatures and date were added some time after 1974 but from earlier photographs it is known that the drawing was signed in pen and ink lower right Henry Moore. The drawing has been retained in 1931 for stylistic reasons and because it may have been one of the seven works on paper purchased by Max Sauerlandt in 1931 for the Museum fur Kunst und Gewerbe, Hamburg, see comment about provenance under the remarks on HMF 880a. See Seated Girl 1931 (LH 110) and Mother and Child 1932 (LH 121).
