Moore presented this drawing to François Mitterrand on the occasion of the French President's visit to Hoglands on 26 October 1984 when he made Moore Commandeur de l'Ordre National de la Légion d'Honneur. For this work, Moore experimented with a Korean writing tablet and its accompanying inks and brushes which had been given to him in 1982.
