Writing in the catalogue of the Wildenstein exhibition, Moore explained 'These drawings were done in Italy (this summer) - just drawing in a little notebook in a relaxed way.  Ideas come and go - mother and child, man and woman, a girl reading... sometimes I just feel the desire to draw, no more than that .... in this kind of drawing, one's hand and one's invention can run free'.
