For the garment worn by the woman at left, compare with HMF 2384, 2385. From the late 1940s Moore began collecting carvings from Africa and the Marquesas Islands which included faces and masks decorated with incisions. These, as well as works of Picasso's Negro period, may have influenced this drawing.
