Catalogues and illustrates all sculptures made by Henry Moore between 1964 and 1973. Drawings are now excluded from this series of volumes. In his introduction Alan Bowness outlines the different stages of Henry Moore's work, and stresses the creative energy implicit in the more than 100 works produced during 1964-1973, that is between the artist's 66th and 75th years. Themes central to the earlier work, particularly the Reclining Figures, continue into this late period. The major works documented in this catalogue are discussed by Bowness, as are his working methods. Finally the power of the 'late style' is placed in historical perspective as a natural progression of Moore's work, and is likened to the greatest work produced by giants of the arts in past ages. The introduction is based on a lecture first given at the opening of the Henry Moore Center at the Art Gallery of Ontario in 1974 (See 0003846), and repeated, with modifications, as the Philip James Memorial lecture at Burleighfield House, and at the Universities of London and East Anglia.
