Description: 36 Sculptures 1923-1947 and 33 Drawings 1930-1946. Exhibition organised by the British Council. In his three-page introduction Read explains that Moore has now become an artist of world-wide significance. The quantity and variety of work he has produced was seen at the M.O.M.A. exhibition (See 0008703), prior to the Venice Biennale. His life and influences are outlined, as is his place in the development of modern art, albeit with a particular independence evident in the critical approach to Primitive art. His humanism, and the understanding of the nature of his material, are seen as vital aspects which transform his figures into dynamic and powerful works of art. See also 0008489 and 0008492.
