Description: Saga of Three Piece Sculpture: Vertebrae, 1968-1969 bronze, continued from 0000366. J.M.B. Property Management Corporation is denying ownership and claims that Seafirst Bank was the seller. Seafirst bought the bronze in 1968 and reportedly sold it to J.M.B. in June 1986. J.M.B. owns the former Seafirst Building where the sculpture currently sits. The city has informed J.M.B. that the building permit requires a piece of art work to adorn its plaza on Fourth Avenue. This means that J.M.B., who have sold the work to a Japanese buyer, must replace the Moore with another sculpture. The Moore cannot be moved without a permit, which would delay its departure for a few weeks. King County assessors are seeking the real owner for tax purposes.
