Description: Brief news report that Bristol Museum and Art Gallery Committee have rescinded their 28 April 1954 decision to purchase Draped Torso, 1953 bronze. The work was rejected by Manchester City Council earlier in 1954.

Description: Report on Manchester City Council's decision to ask the City Art Galleries Committee to think again about purchasing Draped Torso, 1953 bronze. Cost would be £760, and voting was 48 to 46 against the recommendation to buy. Letters in support of Moore appeared in the Manchester Guardian of 6 March 1954 (from Mitzi Cunliffe) and 9 March 1954 (from Philip Hendy), while correspondence upholding the Council's rejection appeared in issues for 10th, 11th and 15th March 1954. Mitzi Cunlifffe wrote again in the 17 March 1954 issue; and the 19 March 1954 issue carried a brief news report that the Art Galleries Committee would again advise the City Council to buy the work. Edmund Arnold of Leeds Art Collections Fund wrote recalling similar situation with Leeds Reclining Figure, 1929 brown Hornton stone in 20 March 1954 issue. News comment that the matter would be referred back to the City Council appeared in Manchester Guardian 3 April 1954, while the 8 April 1954 issue reported that City Council had rejected the work.
