Date & Collation: (8 Sept) 7(1 illus).
Description: Mary Moore's request that the sculptures and buildings, now owned by the Henry Moore Foundation, should be listed has been rejected by Heritage Secretary David Mellor on the advice of English Heritage. Director of the Foundation Alan Bowness saw the decision as an expression of confidence in the Foundation's policy. Mary Moore is continuing to claim her father's post-1977 work. Adopting the role of mediator, Nicholas Serota, director of the Tate Gallery, is supporting the proposals for a study centre, but he has reservations on the reception centre, and on the designation of Moore's studios as stores. Another cutting carries this story under the caption Moore's Girl Loses Studio Fight.

Description: Brian Sewell argues against the Henry Moore Foundation's proposed building developments at Perry Green. Recalls 1978 conversation with the artist, walking through the gardens and studios, that at his death nothing would be changed. Speculates on potential damage to the setting by tourists. Few have protested against the Foundation's proposed activities because of its funding of art projects. The last thing Hoglands needs is a scanning tower so that lazy tourists can look onto the gardens without bothering to walk. This blatant absurdity implies fundamental incomprehension of Moore's larger works distorting the angle from which they should be viewed...""
