Description: Report that Moore had been awarded second prize for sculpture in 1958 Carnegie Prize Exhibition in Pittsburgh. This was widely reported in other British newspapers on 4 December 1958. The value of the prize was $1500/c.£540 for Working Model for U.N.E.S.C.O. Reclining Figure, 1957 bronze.

Although it was a beautiful artefact, it was not acceptable as a holy table but could be a subsidiary altar in a provincial cathedral.

Description: Lord Justice Gibson told the Court of Ecclesiastical Causes Reserved that Circular Altar, 1972 Roman travertine marble should stay in St. Stephen Walbrook at least until a restoration of the building was completed in 1987. Spencer Maurice for the Archdeacon of London opposed the granting of a temporary faculty. The Court would hand down a reserved judgment in the New Year.

Description: The Reverend Chad Varah, Rector of St. Stephen Walbrook in the City of London, defends his controversial desire to install Circular Altar, 1972 Roman travertine marble in his Wren church. Outlines original commission through Peter Palumbo, Moore's visits to the church and to Italy to select the marble. The Chancellor of Diocese (for London the worshipful George Newsom Q.C.) whose advisory council had opposed Henry Moore's altar table by eight votes to seven allowed the work to be put into the church so that he could see it in situ. After a lengthy hearing in February the Chancellor refused a Faculty (i.e. permission)." Outlines the history of altars. It is still in the church awaiting outcome of appeal to the Court of Ecclesiastical Causes Reserved. "To me the Moore sculpture is awe-inspiring and timeless and conducive to worship...""

He left estate valued £1,264,693 and instructed his executors not to allow any further casts of his sculptures to be made, and not to allow any of his unfinished works to be completed. All his copyrights and material of an archival nature were bequeathed to the Henry Moore Foundation.
