Description: Lengthy report of visit to Much Hadham; and discussion on Moore's desire to simplify forms so that they are open to different interpretations, as opposed to Minimal sculpture which simplifies forms but leaves the spectator deliberately with only one thing to react to. The influence of art of the past, and of current art fashions was discussed.

Description: Three Piece Sculpture: Vertebrae, 1968-1969 bronze is installed on the plaza of First National Bank of America. Nowhere in Moore's prolific output have organic and formal elements been more felicitously wedded than in this full-blooded and self-supporting piece. Its component forms are completely realized and work as masses in opposition as the artist intended them to do. Seen from an office window 18 floors up Moore's Seattle piece seemed to be serenely floating above its pool its reflection dispelling its massiveness in a magical manner.""

Description: Enthusiastic review of Marlborough Gerson exhibition (See 0004701). Moore creates organic forms replete with anatomical and topographical analogies that are in the final analysis timeless. They are utterly moving in their serenity... Moore has found viable and convincing analogies to the rhythms and mysteries of nature transforming them into objects that majestically command the space they inhabit." Notes the energy in the work and their architectural overtones together with a mixing of toughness and tenderness."

Description: An elephant's skull was given to Henry Moore by Julian and Juliette Huxley. It became the source for a series of etchings, published by Gérald Cramer (See 0004721) and exhibited widely. Moore's graphic work must be regarded with as much admiration as his sculpture. During the past ten years both areas of expression have reflected his increasing preoccupation with the architectonic elements inherent in the organic forms from which he develops his ever powerful vision. Quotes detailed statements from an interview with Moore on his enthusiasm for the skull and on his method of producing the drawings and etchings.
