Description: Study of modern sculpture in relation to primitive, classical, medieval and modern works.
Moore is mentioned in passing in the chapter on Sculpture and Religion, and there is a short discussion of his work in the chapter entitled Sculpture in the Round in Prehistoric and Roman Times.
122-126,140-142(7 illus) His connections with nature, and with the Norman art of medieval England are mentioned. Figures in his War Drawings are seen as ghosts of the earth as if they had lived for eternities under the ground of which they are part". Other drawings and sculptures are briefly discussed and the author concludes that "By intensifying his intellect man separated himself from intimate connection with the earth and lost his natural strength".

Notes the strange atmosphere and complete detachment of War Drawings "too well known to need reproduction"."
