The Art Bronze Foundry was established in 1922 by Charles Andrew Gaskin (1890-1969) and operated initially at Fulham Road, Chelsea, before moving to Michael Road, off King’s Road, in 1953. Before the First World War, Charles had worked as a metal chaser.

The foundry became a limited company in 1951 and after Charles' death in 1969, his son Michael Gaskin took over. A traditional lost-wax foundry, known by many as ‘Gaskin’s’, the foundry has worked with sculptors including Elizabeth Frink, Jacob Epstein, Michael Ayrton, Anthony Caro, Lynn Chadwick, Barbara Hepworth and Gertrude Hermes.

Henry Moore used the foundry from the 1940s. He had a number of sketch models for a stone Madonna and Child sculpture and for Family Group sculptures in stone and bronze cast there in the mid-1940s. The foundry also cast the edition of his Reclining Figure: Festival 1951 (LH 293), commissioned by the Arts Council for the Festival of Britain.
