The Modern Art Foundry was established in 1932 by John Spring (1902-75) on Astoria Avenue in Queens, New York, and initially called Bedford Bronze. It gained its current name in 1944 when it moved to 41st Street, Astoria, Queens. The foundry continues to operate, run by Spring’s descendants, and specialises in the lost-wax casting method.
Henry Moore used the Modern Art Foundry in 1946 to produce a cast of his bronze Reclining Figure 1938 (LH 192). It was cast from the lead version in the collection of the Museum of Modern Art, New York.
