More Information
The Fiorini Art Bronze Foundry was established around 1950 by Remo Fiorini (1915-97) and located in Fulham, South London. His father, Giovanni Fiorini, also ran a foundry in Battersea from 1909-1929.

In 1952, the foundry opened by Remo Fiorini was located at 12a Michael Road, Fulham. By 1956, Fiorini was in partnership with John Carney, who had previously worked at the nearby Art Bronze Foundry, and they advertised themselves as specialists in fine art casting. They moved to 7 Peterborough Mews, Fulham, and operated until 1983 as R. Fiorini & J. Carney, art bronze founders. From 1984, the firm was known as Fiorini Ltd and Remo Fiorini was still active in business in 1995, aged 80.

Henry Moore worked with the foundry soon after it was established as it appears to have produced the first cast of Family Group 1948-49 (LH 269) for Barclay School in Stevenage. Moore wrote in 1951 that the foundry struggled with the size of the group and took a whole year to do the work. As a result, he had the rest of the edition made by the Fonderie Rudier in Paris (see Alan Wilkinson (ed.), Henry Moore: Writings and Conversations, Lund Humphries, 2002, p. 274).

In a letter of 1980, Moore noted:
Fiorini is good for bronzes which are up to about half life-size, but he cannot cope with really large sculptures.
(Henry Moore to Billie Milam, Los Angeles County Museum of Art, 19 November 1980, Henry Moore Archive).

Moore continued to have his smaller works cast by Fiorini up until his death in 1986. These included, for example, Animal Head 1956 (LH 396); Maquette for Figure on Steps 1956 (LH 426); Divided Head 1963 (LH 506); Maquette for Atom Piece 1964 (LH 524); Maquette for Spindle Piece 1968 (LH 591); Working Model for Reclining Figure: Angles 1975-77 (LH 674); Working Model for Mother and Child: Block Seat 1983 (LH 837); Bone Head 1983 (LH 891); and Stringed Mother and Child 1986 (LH 186h) (see All Works for a comprehensive list).
