Disbanded notebook of off-white medium-weight wove 178 x 254 mm to which twelve drawings have been ascribed. This notebook may have been taken apart for Moore's first one-man exhibition in the United States, organised by Curt Valentin at the Buchholz Gallery, New York, 11-29 May 1943. No listing of the 40 drawings in this exhibition survives, but it is likely that HMF 1765a was one of them. Valentin sold about half the drawings directly to museums around the United States; others went to private collectors and some to the Dalzell Hatfield Gallery in Los Angeles.
