Heads, Figures and Ideas Sketchbook
Heads, Figures and Ideas Sketchbook
Red-brown cloth-covered boards containing off-white smooth medium-weight wove paper 292 x 242mm. A few pages are numbered (not by the artist) lower right on the recto, others similarly on the verso; no pattern to this numbering is discernible and it seems unlikely that these are page numbers.
Photographic evidence indicates that this sketchbook contained a substantial number of pages, some of which were drawn or reworked after the sketchbook was unbound. Fifty-four drawings are known to be from the sketchbook, and these are followed by four ascribed to it. A further four drawings HMF 2955-58 dated 1957 and four more HMF 2959, 2968-2970 dated 1958 may be from it and are to be found under these years.
As was the case with Unesco Notebook 1954-57 and Heads, Figures and Ideas Notebook 1955-56, some of the pages from this sketchbook were reproduced in Heads, Figures and Ideas 1958, the deluxe edition of which also contained mounted original drawings from the sketchbook.
