More InformationDisbanded notebook, at one time known as Notebook 6, of cream wove paper 288 x 234mm titled by the artist Animals on the front cover; no further details of the notebook are known.
Moore began drawing animals to amuse his small grandson Gus. Many of these and the following studies were drawn from photographs taken at London Zoo, with which the artist had had close associations since the 1920s through his friends Solly Zuckerman and Julian Huxley. In 1981-82 Moore made a series of etchings based on these drawings, which were published in the Animals in the Zoo portfolio CGM 631-645.
