Black moiré paper-covered boards quarter-bound in black leather 225 x 173mm; the book originally contained 120 pages of cream lightweight laid paper 224 x 172mm in uneven signatures, two of fourteen, seven of twelve and one of eight with endpapers bound in between the first and second and the ninth and tenth signatures. The back board is blind-stamped upper left upside down LAMLEY & CO./PUBLISHERS. /SOUTH KENSINGTON. The pages were numbered in pencil by the artist upper right on the recto and upper left on the verso with one fragmentary page unnumbered between pages 47 and 49; many pages are missing, some are fragments and others have become detached. Blank pages or pages with only an inscription, except HMF 87, have not been included in the catalogue raisonné or given AG numbers, though each carries an HMF archive number. The notebook has always been dated 1922-24 although pages 179-193 HMF 146-153 were drawn in 1925 while Moore was in Italy.
