Echoes of the Mexican chacmool can again be seen in Reclining Figure: Angles. The tensions, oppositions and asymmetry of the reclining figure made it an ideal subject for endless variations in form. Moore wrote: 'the reclining figure gives most freedom compositionally and spatially. The seated figure has to have something to sit on. You can't free it from its pedestal. A reclining figure can recline on any surface. It is free and stable at the same time … also, it has repose, it suits me'.

There are casts of this sculpture in the Hakone Open Air Museum in Japan and the Art Gallery of New South Wales, Sydney. The Foundation’s cast has travelled extensively throughout the world since its creation. This particular cast is patinated brown but there are other casts within the edition which Moore coloured green. This is not unusual, and there are several editions of sculptures in Moore’s oeuvre with greatly differing patinas.
