The figure on the left is Bird Basket 1939 (LH 205). In this drawing and HMF 1369 Moore defines the horizontal and vertical planes, creating a sense of claustrophobia by using the ribbed effect on the wall. The source of light in both drawings is from the right and from slightly above the forms. Here the shadows cast by Bird Basket and by the tombstone-like object at the right are not entirely consistent with the shadow cast by the middle form.
