The drawing in the bottom left-hand corner of the recto is closely linked with HMF 1084 and could, in fact, have been the basis for the larger finished drawing. At first glance, these sketches seem to be rather uncomfortable angular abstractions; after a few moments it becomes possible to discern human elements - a head, arms, legs - which build up into a reclining figure or mother and child.
