The undated sketches on the recto look ahead to drawings signed and dated on completion in 1936, see for example HMF 1238 and 1240. The studies on the verso, which are closely related to Two Forms 1934 (LH 146) carved in ironstone, are based on pebbles Moore found on a beach.
