Moore's cavalier attitude towards dating his work has been noted in the Introduction to Lund Humphries' Henry Moore Complete Drawings Volume 1. This drawing, probably dated  many years after its execution, is linked in both style and subject to drawings of 1942 and 1943; see HMF 2093, 2163, 2169. Draped figures are most unusual in Moore's work; see also HMF 866, 866a, 921. This drawing may perhaps be regarded as one of the forerunners to the series of draped figures in the Shelter Sketchbooks of 1940-41.
