This is one of the earliest drawings done in a technique which Moore used in 1982-83. Having immersed the entire drawing in cold water or held it under running water, he then passed a clean brush over the surface. This resulted in an even dispersal of the charcoal or pastel over the complete page. (See also Garrould 1988, p.33.)
