The most significant solo exhibition of Moore's lifetime and one of the largest exhibitions of Moore's work ever held, Mostra di Henry Moore was shown in the Forte di Belvedere, just south of the River Arno in Florence. 2,000 people were at the opening of the exhibition, and 345,000 saw the show over the course of its run. Moore's biographer, Roger Berthoud, describes the Florence show as a "triumph" and "a kind of apotheosis, with news of its magnificence spreading around the world".
The show included some of Moore's largest works on the battlements of the Belvedere, some of which (including Locking Piece and Large Two Forms) were cast in fibreglass for the exhibition..

50 years after the exhibition at the Forte di Belvedere, the English master Henry Moore returns to Florence. Two sculptures, Large Interior Form and Family Group, are exhibited respectively in Piazza della Signoria and outside the front entrance of the Abbey of San Miniato al Monte.
