Description: Letter to the editor signed by 41 young artists viewing with concern the public money being allocated to accommodate the Moore gift to the Tate Gallery. Repudiates such a massive facility being made to one artist, arguing that the radical nature of art in the 20th century is inconsistent with the notion of an heroic and monumental role for the artist". In 27 May 1967 issue of The Times Philip Hendy replied in support of Moore and Anthony Lousada Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Tate Gallery explained that the finances allowed for general development at the Tate and disagreed with any suggestion that the gift should have been refused. In 1 June 1967 issue Victor Pasmore supported Moore's position and Myles Murphy one of the 41 signatories questions the Tate's function and suggests alternative location for Moore's works. In 7 June 1967 issue Boris Ford suggested that although the works be owned by the Tate they could be displayed elsewhere. Kenneth Clark also supported the gift writing from Florence in the 2 June 1967 issue.
