Description: History of the London Underground system marking the centenary of the opening of the first line in 1863. In a two minute section Henry MOORE, in his studio at Much Hadham, describes how he discovered the shelterers and made notes for his drawings. He mentions the sense of Greek tragedy in the atmosphere. Shelterers are seen on film, and half-a-dozen of Moore's War Drawings are shown. In an earlier sequence the painting by Walter Bayes of World War 1 shelterers is seen. This film is also on a video cassette The Underground Story issued by London Transport Museum in 1988, together with The Victoria Line, Report No. 4: Equip and Complete 1969, also produced by John Shearman and Edgar Anstey.
