Description: A three-day hearing of the Court of Ecclesiastical Causes Reserved opened in the Privy Council Chambers in Downing Street yesterday to decide on the suitability of Circular Altar, 1972 Roman travertine marble for St. Stephen Walbrook. The story was reported in newspapers throughout the world, many with a Reuters photograph of carpenter Matthew Gray sitting on top of the altar. For wire stories see 0012391, 0013258, 0013259. In The Times of 17 December 1986, under the heading Moore Altar Looks Like a Piece of Camembert, David Cross summarised information before the court, which comprised two High Court judges and three bishops.
