Description: J.M.B. Property Management Corporation and Artech Fine Art Services had failed to obtain a permit to remove Three Piece Sculpture: Vertebrae, 1968-1969 bronze and J.M.B. may need to replace it with another art work. Developer Martin Selig said he had offered to buy the work and been told it was not for sale, and Seattle Art Museum's curator of contemporary art, Bruce Guenther, is quoted as saying it was an unfortunate and possibly even scandalous turn of events"."

Description: City officials say Three Piece Sculpture: Vertebrae, 1968-1969 bronze isn't going anywhere until the Department of Construction and Land Use issues a master use permit to dismantle it. Both Seafirst Bank and J.M.B. Property Management indicated they have no plans to file for a permit. It remains to be seen when the buyer will be able to claim the property and remove it from the city.

And what will replace the mammoth Moore on JMB's plaza?" Another cutting labelled Post-Intelligencer 9 September 1986 carries a note by Alice Noble and Scott Maier entitled "Royer enlists help to keep...". Mayor Charles Royer has asked a private art dealer to track down the new owner of the bronze. A similar report headed Seattle (U.P.I.) appeared in other U.S.A. newspapers on 10 September 1986."

Description: Seafirst Bank unwittingly sold the bronze to an overseas buyer without realizing J.M.B. Property Management Corporation had right of first refusal. A compromise gave the title to the first buyer, but provided compensation for J.M.B. The sculpture was eventually sold to a Japanese dealer who has since resold it. Wayne Andersen stated that technically J.M.B. bought the sculpture. Either J.M.B. or Seafirst must now replace it with another work of art before the city will allow its removal.
