Year: 1949
Date & Collation: (Oct).40pp(24 illus).Biog.Introduction by Herbert READ.Texts in French.
Description: British Council exhibition, which also includes three short statements by Henry Moore in English. 53 Sculptures 1923-1948, 44 Drawings 1931-1948 and two textiles. Read's introduction discusses the aesthetic form of Moore's work, his use of materials and vitality rather than beauty, based on natural forms. Moore's use of sketches and maquettes is outlined, and his sense of tradition acknowledges the variety of influences on his work. The essential attraction of the subconscious is a timeless element that cuts across all schools and periods.
The exhibition travelled to Paris, Amsterdam, Hamburg, Düsseldorf, Berne, Athens and Stockholm 1949-1952.
