Publisher: Museum of Modern Art
Place Published: San Francisco
Year: 1985
Date & Collation: (22 Aug-13 Oct).24pp(23 illus).Text by Van Deren COKE.
Description: 78 photographs depicting sculpture 1924-1978. Van Deren COKE notes Moore's technique of recording works in progress; and the occasional unusual angle to emphasise texture. He also points out the documentary nature of the photographs, and the use of open air settings.
Henry Moore: the Reclining Figure (See 0000718) was exhibited at the same time, and by contrast the skillful photographs in it do not convey the true spirit of Moore's work. The part played by photographing natural objects as a source of ideas is mentioned. The continuity of influence of nature is to be seen in his photographs throughout his career. See 0023182 for working list of photographs.
