Date & Collation: Print album.
Description: Portfolio of twelve Lithographs and two Etchings 1966-1967 (Cramer 66-79) in a total edition of 50, published on the occasion of the artist's seventieth birthday. A 10pp text folio contains an Introduction and Commentary on the individual prints by Robert MELVILLE, a list of the 14 prints, and details of the editions. Melville explains Moore's move away from drawings to maquettes in preparation for his sculpture, and notes a 1948 drawing as the basis of the present series of lithographs. The prints are seen as the endless dialogue between object and effigy...the graphic notations of a maker of living stones" with the image of woman predominating. The commentaries on the 14 prints are a combination of facts and poetic description: "Ghosts of stone and bronze figures shades of Nature goddesses reclining on their platforms encircled by shadows like dipping wings and falling leaves.""

Year: 1984
Date & Collation: (5 Sept-19 Oct).48pp(70 illus).Biog 46-48.Introduction by Alan G.WILKINSON.
Description: Marlborough catalogue 413. Drawings 1979-1983 from the Henry Moore Foundation." 57 Drawings 1979-1983 described as "a sequel to last year's 85th Birthday Tribute" the catalogue follows a similar format to the 1983 volume (See 0001062).
Alan Wilkinson's seven-page text entitled "Henry Moore Drawings 1979-1983: reminiscences and continuing themes" stresses the importance and variety of Moore's opus of drawings and the continuity of the Reclining Figure and Mother and Child themes. The works are seen as nostalgic as related to early drawings from life (as opposed to studies for sculpture) and as revealing Moore's interest in the art of the past. This last category includes copies of some works in his own art collection notably by Courbet and Daumier. Wilkinson traces the origins of some recent drawings to sketchbooks of the 1930s. The various techniques used by Moore over the years are outlined."

Robert Melville's introduction entitled On Henry Moore's Doctrine of Truth to Material, places Moore in the Surrealist generation. Influences of the Primitive and of Brancusi are brought out, also the artist's use of materials: Moore's collaboration with his material amounted to collusion". The drapery in Moore's modelling calls to mind the drip technique of Jackson Pollock and the work of Bernini. Recent marble carvings transform "the gallery into a treasure-house of huge gems". This text is reprinted in 0005279."

Description: Catalogue 202. Provides publication details and order forms for 0005394, publication date 1 Feb 1967. The introduction states how Moore's unpremeditated journey by Underground led to a series of drawings which constitute one of the greatest pictorial achievements in English art". Uncanny evidence of presentiment exists in Moore's pre-war work to show him fully prepared to handle the images he encountered in the shelters. The Reclining Figure 1939 elm wood and Bird Basket 1939 lignum vitae and string in particular are symbolic of Moore's compulsive concern with tunnels and the womb as a place of safety. Latent influences from Masaccio and Giotto are observed. "Freedom was in sleep" the drawings show "a rhythmical rising and falling an image of deep regular breathing".
Melville's text reproduced in Homage to Henry Moore (See 0004441)."
