Moore's links with Surrealism and Abstraction. To these he added the influence of English Romantic tradition and that of primitive cultures. Among the principal images to preoccupy Moore were his monumental reclining female figures. During World War II Moore made a memorable series of drawings of the huddled sleeping figures who were sheltered in London's subway tunnels. His last years produced numerous large-scale public commissions in bronze. This in the chapter on International Abstraction. For 1977 edition see 0003028.
