Description: Published in New York by Weybright and Talley. Moore describes his feeling for Pisano's sculptures from the time that he first saw them in 1925. He compares Pisano's work with that of Michelangelo and other Renaissance artists, and discusses the technique of carving. Henry Moore's Summer house in Tuscany was close to the quarries from which Pisano obtained much of his own marble. The dust jacket includes a portrait drawing of Henry Moore by Michael Ayrton, who acknowledges in his Preface that Moore taught him much about the essential nature of sculpture. His text also includes other incidental mentions of Moore.
Henry Moore's text is reprinted in the 1971 edition of Henry Moore on Sculpture (See 0004469, and in Italian in Bolaffiarte 6 (See 0004602).
