Description: On occasion of Art Gallery of New South Wales exhibition (See 0014949), Nick WATERLOW records some of Moore's contacts with Australian artists. William Ohly, a friend of Moore, owned the Abbey Arts Centre in Cockfosters which became a residential centre for artists and writers after the war. There Moore saw the work of Robert Klippel and James Gleeson, and invited them to Much Hadham. Mentions Oliffe Richmond, Alan Ingham, Owen Broughton, Stephen Walker, Daryl Hill, Lenton Parr, Neil Stocker, Ron Robertson-Swann, Graham Gilchrist and Tom Fantl as assistants. The bulk of the Australian assistants to Moore did not emerge as followers though they undoubtedly gained a great deal from his presence". Eric WESTBROOK contributes a personal reminiscence recalling the 1949 Wakefield exhibition (See 0008350) and its European tour. Mentions aspects of Moore's personality and his visit to Greece."
