Place Published: Lausanne
Year: 1982
Date & Collation: 1982(Jan) 90-95(8 illus).Bibliog.Text in French.
Description: This bronze is seen as outside the normal themes of Moore's work. Conceived on the death of George VI, it was an expression of stories told to his daughter, Mary, of kings and queens. Following the Family Groups of 1944-1949, the work represents family stability, and the combination of both human and abstract elements in sculpture. Produced on his return from Greece, the work contains the stylisation of regal figures from history. The work is now sited in the M.O.A. Museum in Japan, and is photographed on the cover of this issue of L'Oeil in that context, and in an article by François DAULTE entitled Le Musée M.O.A. on pages 39-55 of this issue of L'Oeil.
