9-22 BEKKERS Ludi. Henry Moore: a review.
(After the Second World War, Moore was considered one of the greatest modern artists. Like Rubens in the seventeenth century, he united past and present. Artistically Moore was not a revolutionary, and he fell back on traditional forms. Influenced by primitive and Renaissance art, he carved his materials directly. Nature and the human figure were the basis of his drawings and sculpture, his themes being the Reclining Figure and Mother and Child. In the 1930s he was associated with both Surrealism and Abstraction. The 1940s produced his greatest art in the Shelter Drawings. Post War works included King and Queen, 1952-1953 bronze, and the monumental bronzes)
