SARKAR Sandip. Henry Moore: his form and resource in the tradition of modernity. 11pp.Bibliog.
(Early twentieth century culture. Emergence of Moore, influenced by D.H. Lawrence and primitivism. Mentions the timeless qualities in Moore's work, his oneness with nature, and the human body as his point of departure. Although his themes are limited but his expressions are varied and diverse...his figures seemingly are expanded visual metaphors. They are in effect timeless mountains boulders tree trunks and fossils... Moore is a synthesist but his imaginative vision has the power to transfigure what he receives").
CHAKRAVARTI Ajit. Uniqueness of Henry Moore. 11pp.
(Moore as a sculptor-protagonist of the modern looking to non-European antiquity; and later honoured and opening the way for young English sculptors. The development of modern sculpture in England through Moore's interest in Renaissance Rodin and early moderns. His use of natural forms and the human figure particularly the female form. "Moore's sensitivity was aware of the presence of some kind of transcendental energy or spirit").
NADKARNI Dhyaneshwar. Uniqueness of Henry Moore and his Impact on the Sculpture in England and the World. 4pp.
("The emphasis on carving and the concentration on the abstract essence of a subject sum up the uniqueness of Henry Moore." Reclining Figure theme. Reaction against Moore by young artists. "From the Renaissance he appears to imbibe the qualities of grandeur and humanity." Indian sculptors never consciously derived from Moore).
MALIK Keshav. Cross-cultural Perspective of Modern Art. 4pp.
(Parochialism and nationalism in artistic expression. "The artist seeks the hidden universal element").
PARIMOO Ratan. Modern Movement in Indian Sculpture. 32pp.
("Pr obably one major influence on all of them was Henry Moore... For some of the Indian sculptors who were carving directly in stone or wood the influence was so deep yet uncritical as if the only way of treating a wood block or stone cube could be by giving it the kind of biomorphic form which was the characteristic of this great sculptor").
KANNAL Deepak. Henry Moore: in the context of the evolution of modern Indian sculpture. 7pp.
("The whole generation of modern Indian sculptors especially working in stone was influenced by Moore's idiom as well as subject matter." Contrasted with academic sculpture which does not reveal any impact on the contemporary visual sensibility and traditional Indian sculpture).
DAVID Esther. Influences and Responses to Henry Moore's Sculpture by Indian Sculptors during the Post-Independence Era. 4pp.
("Henry Moore's sculptures from a woman's point of view: my reactions and emotions when I see photographs of Moore's sculpture." Deity in Indian stones is very similar to Moore's truth to materials. The Mother-Goddess in Moore's work the feminine principle of nature Prakriti. "In fact the woman of Moore's sculptures is almost like the Goddess Nut of Egypt whose hollow inner spaces are the sky itself. The rounded forms and warmth of Indian life is also the spirit of Moore's sculptures. With this similarity the entire influence of Moore over Indian sculpture becomes understandable... In an overpopulated country like India the Mother and Child concept is an image which is close to the heart of many... The sculpture which could be the envy of any sculptor is King and Queen...time standstill").
MUKHERJEE Meera. Henry Moore. 3pp.
(Personal reactions to Moore's work over the years: "an innovator of modern times but also the bearer of a great and unbroken universal tradition." Reports on a visit to Much Hadham in 1955).
