Description: Fairmount Park Art Association exhibition list of 254 works. Exhibit 18 Henry Moore. A stone Reclining Figure lent by the Buchholz Gallery. Photocopies were received from Philadelphia Museum of Art of two Moore sculpture photographs from a spiral bound book of photographs of the 3rd Sculpture International. Similarly a photo album of the 2nd Sculpture International" in 1940 contained photographs of four Moore sculptures although Moore is not listed in the 16pp checklist of the exhibition. The first "International Exhibition of Sculpture" was held in 1933 but there is no record of any works by Moore being included.

Description: British Council exhibition, which also includes three short statements by Henry Moore in English. 53 Sculptures 1923-1948, 44 Drawings 1931-1948 and two textiles. Read's introduction discusses the aesthetic form of Moore's work, his use of materials and vitality rather than beauty, based on natural forms. Moore's use of sketches and maquettes is outlined, and his sense of tradition acknowledges the variety of influences on his work. The essential attraction of the subconscious is a timeless element that cuts across all schools and periods.
The exhibition travelled to Paris, Amsterdam, Hamburg, Düsseldorf, Berne, Athens and Stockholm 1949-1952.
